In Our Own Time...

Ellie Mae's Cottage operates on it's own time.

"The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once" - Albert Einstein

Unfortunately, OUR time is a bit out of step with everything else. You see we are always running late for everything - work, family gatherings, parties, sport games - even gardening! For example, I started sowing seeds late. Instead of sowing the cold loving veggies in February, or even early March, I waited (procrastinated) until March 31. The tomatoes should have been sowed early April, and there I was sowing them on April 21.

The veggie beds should have been prepared a month ago, but now I'm rushing around trying to get them ready to sow the summer squash, beans, and cucumbers. And, I won't even mention the peas.... *SIGH*

(Not my bed... but I can dream...)

See these 2 peonies..... I'm like the one on left.... it's dragging a bit behind the other one... growing at it's own leisurely rate.

We are dreamer's at Ellie Mae's cottage. We get caught up in the moment -- in whatever we are doing -- time and space seem to collide. But, Einstein proved that time is relative.

"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT'S relativity." - Albert Einstein

Time may be relative and we may be realitively late with our gardening tasks, but once we get started there's no stopping us. We work best under pressure -- dreamers always do. We'll eventually get a harvest from our veggie plants -- maybe a few weeks later than everyone else, but we'll get them none the less. And, after all, most everything late is worth the wait.

Like this gorgeous orchid bloom (this plant should have bloomed in March) -- it was a late bloomer, but look at how breathtaking it is! It's these sort things that make me lose of track of time... the gifts of nature so intoxicating that I can sit and admire them for hours.

Stopping Time

Do you ever get lost in time just enjoying the beauty of nature? I do quite often especially in Spring as the world comes alive. Just a week ago the trees were bare, the ground still frosty, and the perenials still nestled beneath the earth protected from the sharpness of cold. But today everything seems to have come alive -- tickled to rise by the warmth of an unseasonable New England heat wave. So as I looked out the window and saw the trees blooming and the bleeding heart dancing in the breeze, I grabbed my camera in an effort to stop time and thanked the universe for these gifts.

Enjoy...
